Abstract
Evidence of learning in a ListServer contextof communication.
AACE-EdMedia 1997.
While most educators would agree that on-line communication on the Internet presents invaluable learning opportunities there is little empirical evidence available to document such benefits and far less that illuminates the particular nature, structure, functions and forms of such learning. The field of telecommunications in education is young with concerns still cycling around issues of usage and how-to harness the pedagogical potentials of this new medium of communication. This paper presents the results of a survey conducted in a ListServer context of communication amongst the members of an international on-line academic community. Designed to elicit view points and opinions regarding a popular on-line discussion event, the un-expected answers to this open-ended survey questionnaire are examined as they overwhelmingly and unquestionably pointed to learning and conceptual change gained in both voiced and unvoiced participation.
